Benchmarks in Diagetics

I passed this in the car only twice before I made of point of coming back with my camera. Although this storefront, the former Newlife Upholstery at the corner of Lincoln Road and Cataraqui Street has remained in a delightfully chaotic state for most of my adult life, I didn't trust it not to be there upon my return.
Also of interest upon further investigation of the disabused facade: the building, situated on the southeast corner of the intersection, bears a Canadian Geographical Survey Bench Mark plate:

Edited by Stuart Ross, WHY ARE YOU SO SAD? includes a jacket blurb from Jack Kerouac that reads: "I tore up all the other letters today tho there is one smart kid called Dave McFadden."
