Abandoned Salon

Canon EOS 20D

Some of the best shots come out of a Saturday evening walk. I got back from my trip to Ann Arbor yesterday (where I regretted not bringing a camera) and decided I wouldn't repeat the mistake. This one reminds me of the cover to R.E.M.'s Document album. It also reminds of the "Grey Goose" photo you can see in the February archive. The common element: multiple level of reflection in glass.

This is the first photo with me or the 20D in the image. That's my oldest, Nathanael, on my shoulders. The location is a place called Raine's--a hair salon at the corner of Niagara Street and Lincoln Road in Windsor. It's been abandoned for more than 20 years, in the middle of a residential neighbourhood. Strangely, there's an abundance of ferns, geraniums and pothos ivy that fills the place year round. And now, Raine has added boxes of trout.
